According to Ecommerce News, the number of online marketplaces in DACH countries has increased significantly in the past 5 years.

In 2015, there were 81 online marketplaces with most of them being business-to-consumer (B2C) platforms. Nowadays, there are 173 mostly B2C online marketplaces.

5 years ago, only 2 online marketplaces had a significant impact within the DACH region. Those were Amazon and eBay who influenced and dictated e-commerce in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland with their marketplaces. But for now, Amazon and eBay are getting more and stronger competition from local platforms.
