IDEX Biometrics, a provider of fingerprint identification technology, launched a biometric payment card program across Turkey, according to a press release. The first cards should reach consumers by the first quarter of 2023.

To implement the idea, IDEX teamed up with leading Turkish card manufacturer E-Kart. Turkey attracted the biometrics company as one of the biggest payment card markets in the world. Namely, the release states the country has 240 million cards in circulation and 1.8 million acceptance locations.

Moreover, a recently published market survey commissioned by IDEX Customer Lab revealed a strong public demand for the technology. Thus, 86% of consumers in Turkey considered biometric payment cards very convenient, and 82% said they would use a biometric payment card if it were available to them.

IDEX Biometrics designs and commercializes fingerprint sensor solutions for payments cards, embedded devices, digital wallets and cyber authentication. The company partners with Visa, Mastercard and China UnionPay. IDEX solutions are complete biometric systems with software and algorithms. Besides, they offer remote on-card enrollment that addresses the largest barrier to adoption for biometric smart cards.
