Facebook launched Threads from Instagram, a new camera-first messaging app.

Threads is a standalone app. A user can share photos, videos, messages, Stories, and more with their Instagram close friends list. A user is in control of who can reach them on Threads, and they can customize the experience around the people who matter most.

Last year, Instagram introduced Close Friends, for sharing more personal moments with a select group of people a user chooses. Now, a user can use Threads to message those people on their Instagram close friends list and they’ll have a dedicated inbox and notifications just for them. If a user doesn’t have a list set up yet, they can make one directly from Threads when they download the app.

Threads is the fastest way to share a photo or video with close friends on Instagram. It opens directly to the camera and allows to add shortcuts. Messages from close friends list will appear in both Threads and Direct.

Threads began rolling out globally yesterday.
