Blockstream has announced construction has begun on a new solar-powered Bitcoin mining facility. The 3.8 MW Tesla Solar PV array and 12 MWh Tesla Megapack will power the open-source, solar-powered Bitcoin mining facility at a Blockstream Mining site in the US.

The environmental impact of cryptocurrency mining has received a lot of attention in recent months as the industry continues to grow exponentially. Mining requires powerful computers to solve complex mathematical equations.

To demonstrate the viability of mining operations using renewable electricity, Tesla, Block, and Blockstream will collaborate to build an open-source, solar-powered bitcoin mining facility in Texas, Blockstream’s CEO confirmed.

Tesla’s role in the project is to provide solar panels, giant batteries for energy storage, and related infrastructure. The plant will be operational later in 2022 with an initial total capacity of 3.8 MW.

We’ve reported that Tesla made Supercharger network in the Netherlands available to all EVs.
