The owners of Apple devices operating on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS can now combine familiar Siri capabilities with AI assistants from the newly-integrated ChatGPT.
AI development firm OpenAI has released an announcement about its flagship smart assistant ChatGPT now being integrated within the Apple intelligence suite along with Siri, gradually rolling out for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS users.
Apple users will be able to use OpenAI’s popular tool even without an account, though account owners will leverage more embedded opportunities. Some of the most useful features available include the writing tool which allows users to create and summarise documents using ChatGPT; visual intelligence on iPhone 16 that helps users learn about objects around them via camera input on iPhone; and task delegation from Siri to ChatGPT if the assistant finds it more efficient.
Customers can also access the ChatGPT app directly and work with the assistant as usual. The app allows users to interact with GPT-3.5 for free or GPT-4 with a ChatGPT Plus subscription. The firm has also recently introduced ChatGPT Pro – a $200 monthly plan that enables scaled access to OpenAI’s smartest model, OpenAI o1, as well as to o1-mini, GPT-4o, and Advanced Voice.
Enhanced AI functionality for Apple smartphones, laptops, and tablets allows seamless interaction across IOS devices, promoting productivity and creativity.
The ChatGPT app for iOS is already available in numerous countries, including regions across North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and parts of Africa, but not all the supported countries yet.
As the update started rolling out, ChatGPT experienced a temporary network outage along with OpenAI’s video generation model Sora, which was presented just three days ago. Both services have already been fixed.
The integration has been mused since May, and already in November Apple officially announced the upcoming December integration of OpenAI’s chatbot, which is the most popular virtual product of the corresponding category in the world.
The update was presented within the OpenAI’s holiday advent-like event series called “12 Days of OpenAI” where company representatives showcase the firm’s latest innovations and integrations. Since the beginning of December, the popular AI developer also introduced Canvas – an interface for writing and coding in collaboration with ChatGPT, Sora video generation tool, Reinforcement Fine-Tuning research program, and an updated OpenAI o1 series of AI models.
