Worldline has expanded its long-standing partnership with PSA Payment Services Austria to modernise the country’s core payments infrastructure with a future-ready, sovereign European platform.

Worldline and PSA Deepen Partnership to Power Austria’s Next-Generation Payments

Worldline has announced a significant upgrade to its long-term collaboration with PSA Payment Services Austria (PSA), a central player in Austria’s national payments ecosystem. Under the expanded partnership, Worldline will support PSA in migrating to a next-generation, cloud-based payments platform designed to improve scalability, resilience, security, and compliance with evolving European standards.

The initiative reflects growing pressure on national payment infrastructures to handle rising transaction volumes, increasing regulatory complexity, and accelerating demand for real-time, digital-first services. Worldline’s cloud-native, API-enabled processing platform is intended to help PSA modernise its core systems while retaining full operational continuity and high levels of reliability for Austrian banks and financial institutions.

A key element of the project is the deployment of the solution within Worldline’s European sovereign cloud. This approach enables PSA to benefit from the efficiencies and flexibility of cloud technology without sacrificing data sovereignty, regulatory alignment, or national resilience requirements. At the same time, the platform is designed to accommodate local payment habits and market-specific needs, ensuring that innovation does not come at the expense of domestic relevance.

PSA’s management described the project as a cornerstone of its long-term strategy, noting that the platform upgrade is expected to support growth ambitions over the coming decade. The company highlighted that the new infrastructure would enable faster product development, improved service quality, and a fully sovereign European cloud environment, while continuing to meet strict Austrian and EU regulatory expectations.

From Worldline’s perspective, the partnership underscores its role as a strategic technology provider for critical national payment infrastructures. The company indicated that it would support PSA not only with processing technology, but also with ongoing innovation and deep expertise across cards, account-to-account payments, and digital authentication.

Together, Worldline and PSA position the initiative as a new benchmark for payments in Austria, combining national-scale reliability with future-ready technology to support the next phase of digital payments evolution.

The announcement also comes amid a broader strategic realignment at Worldline. Earlier this year, the company exited its Swedish CoreOrchestration platform as part of a portfolio optimisation strategy, signalling a sharper focus on scalable, high-impact payment platforms and core processing capabilities. The expanded PSA partnership aligns with this direction, reinforcing Worldline’s emphasis on sovereign, cloud-based infrastructure for European markets.
