Fortune magazine released its latest Change the World list, featuring businesses creating positive social impact in the world. The ranking is based on the reach, nature, and durability of the company’s impact on one or more specific societal problems. The assessment also considers business results, the innovativeness of the company’s effort, and how integral the initiative is to a company’s overall strategy.
A united front of vaccine makers seeking a global solution to bring COVID-19 under control took the first place, followed by Alibaba and PayPal.
Fortune said it was recognizing Alibaba for its mobilization of global infrastructure to support different communities during the pandemic. Alibaba rose from number 37 in last year’s list.
PayPal took the third place for saving all employees from COVID-related cuts, as well as for helping some customers get faster access to their coronavirus stimulus payments, by waiving the 1% fees it usually charges to rapidly cash payroll and government checks.
Some other companies who made it to the list are Zoom (6), Walmart (9), Mastercard (14), Bank of America (15), Microsoft (16), Alphabet (23), etc.
