Signa Retail, the Austrian group that owns Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof, wants to give a boost to its online sales. That’s why it launched the New Business Hub in Zurich. Carmen Spielmann, founder and CEO of car-sharing platform Sharoo, joined Signa Retail to lead the new division, Ecommerce News reports.

The New Business Hub of Signa will be used to discover new trends, market developments and startups. The Austrian company is putting more and more effort into expanding its digital capabilities, the company explains in the press release.

With the new division, Signa Retail wants to focus especially on expanding its sports ecommerce & experience platform Signa Sports United. This includes brands like Fahrrad.de, Bikester, Tennis-Point, Outfitter and Stylefile. Last year, this platform generated a profitable turnover of 442 million euros.

Spielmann says she looks forward to supporting the Austrian retail group in developing digital strategies and bringing customer-focused innovation to the market.

Currently, the retail group combines five independent trading platforms under one roof: Premium, Department Store, Home & Lifestyle, Food & Restaurant and Sports. According to the group, each of these platforms has a leading market position in its sector in the German and European retail market.

The company has 320 physical locations across Europe and over 100 online shops in 20 different countries.
