Around 580,000 5G base stations were installed by Chinese operators this year, RCRWireless.com reports.

At a press conference last week, ministry spokesman Wen Ku said that all prefecture-level towns are now served by 5G networks.

During 2020, China has accelerated 5G growth, expanding its network while promoting a range of 5 G applications, the official added.

In the first 11 months of the year, shipments of 5G cell phones amounted to 144 million units, with 199 new models entering the market, according to the survey.

The Department will continue to develop high-quality 5G networks and data centers while supporting 5G technology applications in areas such as manufacturing, energy, and transportation, Wen said.

The total number of 5G base stations in China could surpass more than 1.7 million by the end of next year, according to estimates by Wu Hequan, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

We’ve reported that operator billed revenue from 5G connections will reach $357 billion by 2025. Rising from $5 billion in 2020, its first full year of commercial service.
