Fujitsu and Zippin unveiled new cooperation under which Fujitsu becomes the exclusive distributor of Zippin’s no-cash solution in Japan.

It will start with the aim of creating a new smart store with artificial intelligence for the micro-market by March 2021. The partners will further consolidate their cooperation to expand beyond Japan. The agreement comes after successful field trials by Fujitsu and Zippin with Lawson convenience store chain in Japan earlier this year.

The partnership allows Fujitsu to create a new retail resolution that will deliver a new level of customer experience by September 2021, using the Zippin SaaS platform without teller transactions. It will focus on cashless transactions to save employees time and increase their throughput, which is especially important during a pandemic. Capabilities may include identity verification with multi-biometric authentication. The combined Fujitsu and Zippin technology expertise will speed up the digital reorganization of every retail store.

In accordance with this agreement, Fujitsu will begin providing the Zippin solution without paying for the order, directly or with local partners in the Japanese market. Fujitsu will also elaborate a resolution to deliver a new shopping experience, which includes a consumer personal and a managed service to speed up the global retail business, which will be available in the market as SaaS by September 2021.
