Digital-only bank Revolut announced it has introduced 3D Secure (3DS) to help fight against fraud and keep customers safe.

3DS is a step you take when buying something online using your Revolut card, the bank explains on its website. If a customer is paying with their Revolut card on a website that uses 3D Secure, the bank will automatically send a user a push notification. This push notification will ask them to open the app, and tap on ‘Confirm’.

3DS confirmation happens before the transaction is made, meaning a payment could still be declined after a user confirms it in the app, for any of the usual reasons payments get declined, such as insufficient balance, blocked card, etc.

This is one of the requirements if the law from 14th September 2019 for banks to have 3D Secure in place for all of their customers. For this reason, there won’t be an option to turn 3DS off.
