… Including location-based chats, adding contacts without phone numbers and more
In the new update, Telegram simplifies exchanging contact info. According to the official blog, all new chats now have an ‘Add to Contacts‘ button at the top. This allows adding anyone who messages a user to their Telegram contacts, even without knowing their phone number. There is the ‘Block‘ button too, in case a user prefers a new contact to disappear.
Another new feature allows adding people nearby. To use it, a user should open Contacts > Add People Nearby to quickly exchange contact info with Telegram users who are standing nearby and also have this section open.
The new People Nearby section also shows Groups Nearby – location-based group chats open for anyone around to join. With this feature, a user can easily create a local group to unite, let’s say, dormitory or apartment building. It may also come in handy at conferences or festivals.
Moreover, Telegram now allows transferring ownership rights from any groups and channels to other users. When admin grants full admin rights to another person, the ‘Transfer Ownership‘ button appears.
