In a landmark move for Africa’s digital transformation, the Africa Trade Gateway (ATG) has launched its national adoption awareness campaign in Rwanda — a step that positions the country at the forefront of driving the AfCFTA’s vision of one integrated African market.
The Africa Trade Gateway (ATG), an innovative digital ecosystem built to streamline trade across the continent, has launched a national adoption awareness initiative in Rwanda.
The rollout marks a key milestone in Africa’s push toward deeper economic integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), enabling Rwanda to play a leading role in advancing the AfCFTA’s goal of a unified, digitally connected African market.
A joint initiative of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and the AfCFTA Secretariat, the ATG serves as a comprehensive platform enabling African businesses to connect with verified partners, access financing, execute secure cross-border payments, and expand into new markets. By linking traders, financial institutions, and logistics providers across borders, the ATG aims to strengthen intra-African commerce, boost industrial growth, and foster job creation.
The Government of Rwanda, a strategic partner in the initiative, encouraged local enterprises to adopt digital trade tools, describing the platform as a “transformative leap toward realizing the AfCFTA’s promise.”
Alexis Kabayiza, Chief Technical Advisor at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, highlighted that the ATG embodies Africa’s commitment to digital self-determination, calling it a catalyst for inclusion, industrialization, and resilience.
The Kigali launch convened senior policymakers, banking and private sector leaders, diplomats, and trade associations, all reaffirming the importance of digital solutions in accelerating Africa’s economic transformation.
Afreximbank’s Director of Digital Banking, Emeka Onyia, described the ATG as “a turning point for African trade,” underscoring its potential to convert the AfCFTA’s vision into tangible growth and collaboration.
With its expansion to Rwanda, the Africa Trade Gateway continues to bridge markets, empower enterprises, and move the continent closer to a fully integrated digital economy.
