Balance Launches MCP Server to Enable Real-Time, AI-Driven Management of B2B Payments

Balance, an AI-powered financial infrastructure platform for B2B commerce, has announced the beta release of its Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, enabling customers’ AI agents to directly communicate with Balance’s payments, credit, and receivables APIs. The integration allows merchants to query payment data, analyze buyer behavior, and manage operational tasks in real time through their preferred AI chat interface.

The development marks another step toward implementing agentic AI in payments infrastructure. This new class of autonomous software agents is capable of performing business actions based on live data and user intent. One of the most intriguing use cases is payment transactions that can be automated. While the concept of agentic systems is gaining momentum across industries, their application in B2B financial operations remains in the early stages. Solutions like Balance’s MCP Server aim to bridge that gap by allowing enterprise AI models to interact directly with financial APIs, creating a more connected and responsive revenue infrastructure.

With the MCP Server, AI agents can securely retrieve and act on live financial data using natural language prompts. Example capabilities include identifying credit utilization patterns, tracking overdue invoices, analyzing order histories, and generating new payment or onboarding links. These features enable sales, finance, and operations teams to make faster, data-informed decisions and improve buyer engagement without leaving their conversational workspace.

The launch also reflects a broader shift toward agentic commerce, where AI systems autonomously coordinate purchasing, payments, and reconciliation between businesses. To support this evolution, companies are experimenting with emerging protocols that enable structured communication between financial APIs and AI models, such as the Model Context Protocol (MCP), OpenAI’s tool integration frameworks, and early-stage agent-to-agent settlement standards. Together, these technologies are shaping the foundation for a more automated, intelligent B2B payments ecosystem.

Balance’s MCP Server joins the company’s existing suite of agentic commerce tools, which include AI-powered underwriting and autonomous Accounts Receivable modules. The solution is available in beta for select Balance merchant customers.
