The strategic acquisition of Recharge, a leading European prepaid payments platform, strengthens Coda presence in Europe and expands its global footprint across 180+ markets.
Coda, a Singapore-based fintech company developing digital content payment infrastructure, has acquired Recharge for an undisclosed amount.
While the deal’s value remains confidential, the two companies have shared estimations that, based on 2024 figures, the combined entity is expected to process over $1.75 billion in sales, serve more than 200 million customers, and operate in over 180 markets.
The acquisition supercharges Coda’s broad digital content payment infrastructure with Recharge’s expertise in prepaid payments, enabling enhanced service offerings for digital content providers worldwide. Coda specializes in out-of-app monetization and commerce solutions, where prepaid payments play an increasingly important role.
For instance, prepaid payments (via vouchers, top-ups, gift cards, etc.) can enable direct gaming purchases outside app ecosystems, reducing fees and increasing margins. Besides, prepaid transaction types expand access to digital content for the underserved and unbanked citizens in emerging economies. They often lack access to credit and debit cards, but can use prepaid, cash-based, or other alternative local payment options to avail of online games, streaming platforms, and creator services.
For Recharge, joining forces with Coda unlocks access to its established B2B capabilities, including deep relationships with leading global digital publishers and platforms. The partnership also provides a strategic pathway for Recharge to expand into fast-growing, high-potential markets across Asia, accelerating international growth beyond its core European base.
