Elon Musk has announced that X Money, the long‑anticipated payment system integrated into the social platform X, will enter an external beta in the coming weeks to months, marking a major step toward launching financial services within the app’s broader ecosystem.

Speaking at a recent internal company session, Musk said X Money has been operating in a closed internal beta and is expected to expand to a limited external beta within the next one to two months, after which it will be rolled out more widely to the platform’s users. The feature is a core component of Musk’s vision to evolve X into an “everything app”— a single digital environment for communication, social networking, media and money transfers.
X Money is designed to function as a payments and financial transactions hub built directly into X, allowing users to send and receive funds without leaving the app. The system builds on earlier work by X to develop digital wallet and person‑to‑person payment capabilities, including partnerships with major payment networks such as Visa to enable wallet funding and peer‑to‑peer transfers.
Musk described X Money as intended to become “the place where all money is,” positioning it as the central conduit for monetary activity on the platform. At this stage, the upcoming beta is expected to focus on fiat currency transactionsrather than broader financial services, with the company prioritizing phased testing to ensure stability, compliance and security before a full global rollout.
The payments initiative has been in development for several years, tracing back to beta tests of wallet functions and licensing efforts in multiple U.S. states to operate as a money transmitter. Musk’s plan for X Money aligns with his long‑term ambition to embed financial tools into the platform, revisiting ideas connected to his early work in online banking and payments.
As X Money progresses toward public testing, users and industry observers will be watching how the feature handles regulatory requirements, onboarding flows and user experience, setting the stage for the next major expansion of X beyond social networking and messaging.
