Fintech Funding Surges in 2026: From Unicorn Milestones to AI-Powered Infrastructure Bets

The global fintech investment landscape is firmly back in growth mode heading into mid-2026, and a string of fresh funding rounds this month underscores just how much momentum has returned to the sector and where smart money is flowing.

Fintech Funding Surges in 2026: From Unicorn Milestones to AI-Powered Infrastructure Bets

A Sector Reborn: KPMG’s Big Picture

After three consecutive years of contraction, the numbers are finally moving in the right direction. Global fintech investment climbed to $116 billion across 4,719 deals in 2025, up from $95.5 billion in 5,533 transactions the year prior, according to KPMG’s Pulse of Fintech report released in April 2026. The paradox is telling: fewer deals, but much larger checks — a sign that investors have grown more selective, not more fearful.

The Americas led the charge with $66.5 billion attracted, while EMEA followed with $29.2 billion. Asia-Pacific, however, decelerated to $9.3 billion from $11.7 billion in 2024. Two sectors dominated investor imagination: digital assets attracted $19.1 billion, its third-highest year on record, while AI-focused fintech captured $16.8 billion.

KPMG’s global fintech lead Anton Ruddenklau summed up the mood: renewed confidence is building, particularly around scalable platforms at the intersection of digital assets and AI, and that confidence is beginning to translate into real deal activity.

Slash Financial Hits Unicorn Status with $100M Series C

Few funding stories this quarter are as improbable or as instructive as Slash Financial. The San Francisco-based business banking platform reached unicorn status after closing a $100 million Series C round, valuing the company at $1.4 billion, led by Ribbit Capital with Khosla Ventures and Goodwater Capital co-leading.

What makes Slash remarkable is its origin. The company was founded by two teenagers who started by serving sneaker resellers. When that market collapsed overnight, they pivoted hard toward vertical banking for online businesses. Slash surpassed $250 million in annualized revenue in 2025, growing from $10 million in just 24 months, and exceeded $1 billion in annualized stablecoin payment volume within nine months of launching that product.

The new capital will fund “Twin,” Slash’s newly launched AI-powered financial agent designed to handle payment workflows, invoice generation, and card issuance autonomously on behalf of business customers.

TraqCheck Lands $8M to Automate Enterprise Hiring

India and London-based HR tech startup TraqCheck closed an $8 million Series A this week, backed by IvyCap Ventures and IIFL Fintech Fund. The company is building a “Human Operating System” made up of specialized AI agents that execute end-to-end hiring workflows autonomously, serving nearly 300 enterprise customers across India and Europe.

Rather than layering intelligence onto existing software, TraqCheck replaces the entire workflow stack, handling sourcing, screening, and background verification end-to-end. Its flagship agent, Trace, handles background checks, while its newer agent Nina sources and qualifies candidates in real time. Industry estimates suggest autonomous hiring agents could reduce time-to-hire by 40-60% for enterprises that adopt full-stack agentic systems.

Ralio Raises $2.5M for Agentic Payment Safety

Here’s a name to watch: Ralio. The London-based startup announced a $2.5 million pre-seed round — the largest agentic payments raise in Europe to date, led by Sure Valley Ventures, with participation from Seed X, Love Ventures, and Plug and Play, among others.

The startup’s thesis is straightforward but urgent: AI agents are already executing procurement, payroll, and treasury tasks for businesses, but every agent-initiated payment currently takes place without verified intent, enforced limits, or an audit trail. Ralio embeds guardrails, identity verification, and full audit trails directly into the payment infrastructure before a single transaction moves. The round was three times oversubscribed within just three months of the company’s founding — a signal of how acutely the market feels this gap.

Paxos Labs Raises $12M to Solve DeFi’s Product Problem

Paxos Labs, a spinoff from stablecoin and blockchain infrastructure firm Paxos focused on decentralized finance, raised $12 million led by Blockchain Capital, with Robot Ventures, Maelstrom, and Uniswap Labs also participating.

The pitch is that DeFi’s infrastructure problem is largely solved, but the product problem is not. Paxos Labs launched Amplify, a platform that lets companies integrate yield generation, crypto-backed lending, and branded stablecoin issuance through a single SDK. Early partners, including neobank Hyperbeat and privacy blockchain Aleo, are already live, and the company is targeting breakeven by year-end.

KreditBee Joins the Unicorn Club with $280M Series E

Saving the biggest for last: Indian digital lending platform KreditBee entered the unicorn club in early April. The company raised $280 million in its Series E round at a post-money valuation of $1.5 billion, led by Motilal Oswal Alternates, Hornbill Capital, and MUFG-backed Dragon Funds, with Premji Invest and Advent International also participating.

Founded in 2016, KreditBee has crossed 230 million app downloads and serves over 18 million unique loan customers, having disbursed more than 60 million loans across India with $1.5 billion in assets under management as of March 2026. This is expected to be the company’s final private funding round before a public listing targeted for late 2026 or early 2027. Plans include scaling AI capabilities for sharper credit underwriting and more personalized loan products — a theme running through virtually every major fintech deal this month.
