Google on Monday, September 30, announced its intention to invest $1 billion in Thailand.
The mentioned funds, the technology giant plans to spend on financing the implementation of a project to build a data center in the specified country. Google also intends to direct part of its investments to expand Thailand’s cloud infrastructure.
The investments announced on Monday are evidence of the company’s acceleration in scaling up its operations in Asia. Also in this case, it is noteworthy that artificial intelligence is a kind of technological and, to a certain extent, semantic core of Google’s international push. Currently, in the machine intelligence industry, the company is facing significant competition from such players in this sector as, for example, Microsoft and OpenAI.
The investment announced on Monday will allow Google to build its first data center in Thailand. The corresponding statement is contained in a message published on the blog of the technology giant. It is worth noting that the demand for data centers has grown significantly against the background of the so-called artificial intelligence boom. The corresponding functional objects are also a kind of base for the modern digital economy. Besides, data centers contribute to the development of cloud technologies.
The first Google data center in Thailand will be located in the eastern province of Chonburi. As noted in the blog post of the technology giant, this functional facility will meet the growing demand for the company’s cloud technologies, innovations in the area of artificial intelligence, and services such as Google Search, Google Maps, and Google Workspace.
