Google Wallet Launches in Colombia

Google Wallet service has launched in Colombia, enabling citizens to make contactless in-store payments, as well as store and use their credit and debit cards, boarding passes, tickets and other digital credentials on their Android NFC smartphones, Wear OS smartwatches or Fitbit devices.

At launch, the service is available to the holders of select bank cards. Namely, currently the service supports Mastercard and Visa credit and debit cards issued by Bancolombia and Banco Davivienda, Visa debit cards issued by Nequi, Mastercard credit cards issued by Nubank and American Express cards issued by Bancolombia.

Overall, Google Wallet Service has almost doubled its reach since its launch in July 2022. First, it was available in 39 countries, expanding to seven more regions later the same year. In 2023, Google Wallet went live in Costa Rica, Japan, Argentina, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Montenegro.

In June, Google Wallet added support for QR-based cards and insurance cards. Also, the integration of the boarding pass with Google messages has been added to the wallet’s functionality in this new update.
