Rappi Teams Up With AstroPay for Latin America’s First Super-App Wallet

Latin America’s first wallet-on-file integration based on AstroPay infrastructure inside a super-app allows users in Argentina, Brazil, and Peru to set up a digital wallet directly within the Rappi super-app.

Rappi Teams Up With AstroPay for Latin America’s First Super-App Wallet

Rappi, Latin America’s leading super-app, has partnered with global wallet platform AstroPay to introduce the region’s first wallet-on-file integration. Users in Argentina, Brazil, and Peru can now seamlessly pay cross-border without needing a card.

The wallet, now fully integrated within Rappi super-app, can be funded via local bank transfers, instant payments, or other accepted methods. End clients pay directly from their wallet balance, without adding a card for every separate purchase. The user’s balance is securely stored in the app, while Rappi keeps a tokenized reference to the user’s wallet for future payments, so the customer doesn’t need to re-enter payment details for each transaction.

One of the main benefits of the new payment mode is seamless currency conversion handled by AstroPay for cross-border payments. When users make purchases across the Rappi platform (food delivery, shopping, services), the wallet automatically converts the balance into the required local fiat. Users only need to confirm payment in a single tap, so transactions become almost instantaneous.

The use of wallet-on-file technology turns the Rappi super-app into a one-stop payment hub. For the company, the partnership with AstroPay has both strategic and operational benefits. It helps reduce processing costs, eliminate chargebacks, and increase conversion by removing traditional card steps. It also gives Rappi an advantage over competitors still reliant on legacy card systems.

Meanwhile, users can enjoy instant, frictionless checkout using balances in USD, EUR, or local currencies, with real-time currency conversion and no card-related delays.

The launch comes as Latin America’s cross-border payment market grows rapidly, expanding 47% annually amid rising freelance work and global digital commerce. As super-apps and wallets converge in Latin America, this partnership highlights the growing role of embedded payments in mobile-first economies.

The integration is now live in Argentina, Brazil, and Peru, with plans to expand to other Rappi markets throughout 2025. Early users linking their AstroPay wallet will receive cashback and in-app benefits.
