Travelex and Paper Plus have entered into a national partnership to provide foreign currency exchange services through the Paper Plus store network across New Zealand.

Travelex And Paper Plus To Offer Foreign Exchange Across 84 New Zealand Stores From May 2026

Paper Plus operates 84 stores nationwide as a cooperative of independently owned and operated businesses. Founded in 1983, the group offers books, stationery, toys and related products. Travelex, founded in 1976, provides foreign exchange services in more than 20 countries through airport locations, retail stores, ATMs and online platforms.

Under the agreement, participating Paper Plus stores will offer foreign exchange services under the Travelex brand. Over 40 currencies will be available for purchase over the counter at select stores and online via the Travelex and Paper Plus websites, with collection available at participating locations. Stores are currently in the onboarding phase, with full rollout planned by the end of May 2026.

Paper Plus Chief Executive Officer Carrie Welch said: “As other services and businesses move away from smaller local communities, we see an opportunity to step up and make a meaningful difference. Our independently owned and operated stores care deeply about their communities, and this partnership helps keep important services local and accessible.”

Welch added: “Through our cooperative model, we deliver meaningful customer value while supporting the long-term success of our independently owned and operated stores. Importantly, our stores continue to serve as trusted destinations within their communities – places people can go for both service and connection.”

The NZ dollar remains one of the world’s most actively traded currencies. It is estimated to account for roughly 1.5% of global FX trading volume. Average daily NZD foreign exchange turnover reached about NZ$14.2 billion per day in April 2026.

Travelex ANZ Managing Director Asokan Sathurayar said: “Travelex has specialised in foreign exchange money solutions for 50 years and our mission is to ensure our customers have convenient access to travel money, however and whenever. We’re delighted to be partnering with Paper Plus to facilitate greater access to travel money for communities across New Zealand and we recognise the urgent need to support regional communities.”

Earlier this month, Travelex and TSB Bank launched a referral partnership in New Zealand focused on travel money services. The agreement allows TSB customers to buy foreign currency through Travelex’s website at discounted rates for store collection. Customers can also access the same rates at Travelex retail locations by presenting a TSB card or a recent bank statement.
