Uber Is Buying Parking App SpotHero: Here’s What That Means for Drivers

Uber has agreed to acquire SpotHero, the leading parking reservation platform in North America. Once the deal closes, users will be able to book a parking spot without ever leaving the Uber app.

Uber has announced it will acquire SpotHero, a Chicago-based company that lets drivers reserve parking spaces at garages, lots, and valets across the US and Canada. The deal will bring parking reservations natively into the Uber app for the first time, targeting commuters as well as people heading to events, concerts, sports venues, and airports.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The acquisition is expected to close in the first half of 2026, subject to regulatory approval. Once complete, Uber plans to integrate SpotHero’s inventory directly into its existing app rather than running SpotHero as a standalone product.

What Changes for Uber and SpotHero Users

The most immediate practical change is that Uber users heading somewhere by car will be able to search for and book a parking space before they leave inside the same app they already use to hail a ride or order food. Uber says the feature will focus first on high-demand scenarios: commuting, stadiums and concert venues, and airports, where finding and paying for parking is typically the most frustrating part of the journey.

Uber One subscribers, the company’s paid membership tier, will also receive parking-specific benefits once the integration matures, though Uber has not yet specified what form those perks will take.

Parking operators currently working with SpotHero also stand to gain. Uber says they will get access to its wider consumer base, as well as its network of vehicle charging and fleet partners — an attractive proposition for operators looking to modernise their facilities.

“We’ve spent 15 years building SpotHero into the most trusted, high-performing digital parking network in North America. Joining forces with Uber will allow us to bring that experience to millions more drivers.”

Mark Lawrence, CEO, SpotHero

Founded in 2011, SpotHero built its business by aggregating parking inventory from thousands of independent operators and making it searchable and bookable online. The company has processed more than $2 billion in reservations and has been the dominant player in digital parking reservations in North America for several years. Joining Uber gives it instant access to tens of millions of existing users — a scale it could not have reached independently.

The deal is the latest in a series of moves by Uber to position itself as a single platform for all forms of getting around, rather than just a ride-hailing app. The company already offers food and grocery delivery, public transit integration, rental cars, and, in select cities, autonomous vehicle rides and charging services in partnership with Waymo and others.

Parking is a natural extension of that logic. Many Uber users drive themselves for some trips and use the app for others. By folding parking into the same ecosystem, Uber captures revenue from drivers who would otherwise leave the app entirely. It also creates a stickier relationship with its subscriber base.

“We’ve built Uber around giving people more ways to get around without needing a car. But for the moments when people do choose to drive, SpotHero on the Uber app will make the experience easier than ever, and bring more people into the Uber ecosystem.”

Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO, Uber

As the mobility company expands its service range, it is also strengthening the payment infrastructure to support them via partnerships with leading payment providers like Adyen, Mastercard, and Checkout.com.
