Visa Direct to Enable Real-Time Account Funding for Coinbase Customers

Visa and Coinbase have partnered to enable real-time funding for the crypto exchange’s customer accounts using Visa Direct.

The new service will facilitate and speed up transactions for the crypto exchange users residing across the US and EU who own eligible Visa debit cards. The ability to quickly add funds to their account offers customers more flexibility in trading opportunities, and can be critical for some intra-day transactions in a dynamic crypto environment. Besides, cashing out to supported Visa debit cards will also happen in real-time.

“Bringing this feature to our customers supports our mission of increasing economic freedom in the world. The integration with Visa Direct gives our eligible customers real-time 1access to their funds for trading. By enabling them to move money seamlessly and control their finances, we are delivering the trust, security, and flexibility they expect.”

Akash Shah, Senior Director, Product Management at Coinbase

As comes from the service name, Visa Direct enables fast, secure, real-time payments directly to eligible bank accounts or cards. This solution is widely used by businesses and fintechs to enhance cash flow management, streamline payments, and offer instant access to funds.

At the beginning of this year, Visa enahnced its Visa Direct offering by cooperation with Web3 infrastructure provider Transak. It applied the capabilities of Visa Direct real-time payments to global crypto transactions and enabled users in over 145 countries to convert their crypto assets stored in wallets like Metamask, Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, Ledger, Splinterlands, and Decentraland into local fiat without extra effort.

The payment provider and Coinbase have earlier partnered on a branded debit card for US-based customers. With the Coinbase Card, U.S. residents (excluding Hawaii) can make purchases in both cryptocurrency and U.S. dollars wherever Visa is accepted and earn crypto rewards for spending.
