JD is currently providing AI vending machines to a residential compound in Beijing’s Tongzhou district. This way, its residents get 24/7 access to fresh fruit, vegetables, etc directly from JD’s 7FRESH supermarket nearby.

JD revealed that the AI vending machines are developed by JD-X, the company’s logistics innovation lab. Customers can select products displayed on the machine’s transparent door and use mobile phones to scan a QR code.

After scanning a QR code, the door will open for customers to select their products. Afterward, the payment will be processed automatically after customers close the door. The entire process is convenient, requiring no human-to-human contact.

7FRESH employees disinfect the machine, monitor the quality of the goods, and assure the supply is both sufficient and fresh. For now, the company has provided five such machines in general.
