Holiday retail sales increased by 3.4% with online sales growing 18.8% compared to the previous year, the report says.

The Mastercard SpendingPulse report covers holiday shopping from November 1 to December 24. It says that total apparel saw a gain, posting a 1% growth year over year. What is more, e-commerce increased by 17% compared to 2018.

The jewelry sector experienced a 1.8% growth in total retail sales, with online sales growing by 8.8%. Along with that, department stores saw an overall sales decline of 1.8% and online sales growth of 6.9%. Electronics and appliances were up 4.6%, whereas the home furniture and furnishings category grew 1.3%.
