Mastercard, along with BMO Harris and Superbia Credit Union, announced the launch of the True Name card feature. People will be able to use their true names on their cards without the requirement of a legal name change.
The True Name initiative was announced during World Pride 2019 and will be accessible in 2020.
According to the research, almost 32% of users who have shown IDs with a name or gender not matching their presentation reported negative experiences, such as being harassed, denied services, and/or being attacked. The True Name card feature will help the transgender and non-binary communities to show up as who they are in their daily life.
