Dutch payments technology company Adyen has unveiled Adyen Agentic, a new suite of APIs designed to help enterprise merchants sell through conversational AI platforms without having to rebuild their commerce infrastructure for every emerging channel.

Announced on June 16, the product aims to address one of the growing challenges in agentic commerce: the rapid emergence of multiple, competing AI shopping platforms and technical standards. Although agentic commerce is still in its early stages, technology companies, payment networks, AI providers, and commerce platforms are already developing their own protocols, checkout experiences, and methods for sharing product and payment data. As consumers increasingly interact with AI assistants, chatbots, and autonomous shopping agents, merchants are facing a growing number of integration requirements across different platforms, protocols, and payment systems.
Adyen positions its new offering as a universal integration layer that allows businesses to connect once and participate across multiple AI commerce ecosystems as they evolve.
“Every new agentic surface asks merchants to rebuild from scratch… we intentionally designed Adyen Agentic to help retailers integrate once and participate across evolving platforms, protocols, and experiences — without having to bet on which ecosystems ultimately win.”
Karan Katyal, Global Head of Agentic Commerce, Adyen
Adyen Agentic is structured around three core technical components designed to support commerce within AI-driven and conversational environments:
Agentic Feed is a data layer that standardizes and distributes product information such as catalog details, pricing, and availability in real time. It is intended to make this information usable across different conversational and AI commerce interfaces.
Agentic Cart functions as an integration layer between merchant systems and external AI platforms. It connects existing checkout, tax calculation, fulfillment, and order management infrastructure so that transactions initiated in conversational environments can be processed using a merchant’s current commerce stack.
Agentic Payments focuses on handling payment flows within agent-led or AI-mediated transactions. It supports authentication, token portability, merchant-of-record continuity, and fraud and risk management to maintain consistency as different protocols and AI commerce standards emerge.
According to the company, the platform is designed to eliminate the need for merchants to undertake a new development project whenever a new conversational commerce platform enters the market. The solution is initially available to enterprise merchants in the United States, with broader international availability planned. Early adopters of the technology include retailers ESW, Scheels, Sézane, and SharkNinja.
“The rapid evolution of Agentic Commerce protocols means retailers need a trusted partner who stays ahead of the curve. With Adyen Agentic, we were able to build on proven, battle-tested foundations to deploy quickly and confidently. As the agentic ecosystem grows, the solution will allow us to seamlessly reach consumers across every emerging commerce platform.”
Nicolas Benoist, CTO at Sezane
Its payment ecosystem partners are American Express, Mastercard, Salesforce, and Visa.
The launch reflects a broader industry push toward interoperable agentic commerce infrastructure as technology companies, payment networks, and merchants seek common standards for AI-driven transactions. Adyen said the platform is designed to support commerce experiences across conversational interfaces, AI assistants, mobile applications, websites, and connected devices. By positioning itself as an open ecosystem layer rather than a closed marketplace, the company aims to serve as an infrastructure provider for the broader conversational commerce workflow.
“For agentic commerce to scale, trust, security and interoperability need to be built in from the start,” said Sherri Haymond, executive vice president, Global Head of Digital Commercialization at Mastercard. “Equally critical is enabling merchants — making data discoverable and machine‑readable so they can participate as models and protocols evolve. With Agent Pay, Mastercard is helping establish a strong foundation for secure, scalable agent‑driven transactions, while solutions like Adyen Agentic are contributing to a more vibrant, connected ecosystem.”
Another key element of the rollout is compatibility with Meta’s AI checkout experience, which enables shopping directly within Meta’s ecosystem of apps, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. In this model, users can discover products through conversational AI interactions or recommendations inside Meta platforms and complete purchases without leaving the chat or feed environment, using a native checkout flow integrated into Meta’s commerce infrastructure. Adyen’s Agentic layer is designed to plug into this type of experience, allowing merchants to support Meta’s AI-driven shopping flows without building a separate integration specifically for it.
The company also highlighted alignment with emerging industry standards, including the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) co-developed by Google, the Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), and OpenAI’s Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), positioning Adyen Agentic as an interoperability layer intended to work across multiple competing agent commerce frameworks.
