Airport FX Giant Travelex Adds 150,000 Members in 10 Months as Loyalty Push Gains Momentum

Global foreign exchange specialist Travelex International Limited has signed up more than 150,000 members to its new UK loyalty programme, Travelex Plus, less than a year after launch, underscoring renewed momentum in the travel money market as international travel demand remains resilient.

Airport FX Giant Travelex Adds 150,000 Members in 10 Months as Loyalty Push Gains Momentum

Founded in 1976, Travelex operates in more than 20 countries and is widely recognised as one of the world’s largest non-bank foreign exchange providers. The company runs hundreds of bureaux and ATMs across major international airports, transport hubs, shopping centres and city locations, while also offering online ordering, wholesale banknote distribution to financial institutions and central banks, and prepaid travel money cards.

The rapid uptake of Travelex Plus signals a strategic shift toward deepening customer engagement in a competitive airport FX environment. The UK-based loyalty scheme provides members with exclusive exchange rates on cash and card products, discounts, price-freeze options and favourable-rate alerts.

Simon Jackson, Chief Customer Officer at Travelex said: “Customers get access to our best rates on cash and card when they join Travelex Plus. We’re excited to see more than 150,000 customers already benefitting from Travelex Plus discounts.”

Programme data indicates that members are transacting more frequently and in higher volumes than non-members. Over the first ten months:

  • Travelex Plus members acquired on average around 25% more currency than non-members, supported by preferential member rates and promotional incentives.

  • The number of customers reloading funds onto their Travelex Money Card (TMC) nearly doubled under Travelex Plus, based on activity within the first four weeks of acquiring a TMC, as users took advantage of improved member pricing.

The figures suggest that loyalty-led pricing strategies are influencing purchasing behaviour, particularly in airport environments where convenience and timing are critical. Travelex has indicated it is using the programme to build deeper customer relationships, analyse consumer behaviour and increase lifetime value.

In recent years, the foreign exchange sector has faced structural change driven by digital payments, fintech competition and the post-pandemic recovery of global travel. Against that backdrop, loyalty and digital engagement tools have become increasingly important for traditional FX providers seeking to retain margin and strengthen repeat usage.

Travelex continues to expand its online and mobile foreign exchange capabilities while maintaining a significant physical footprint at major international airports. The company also processes foreign currency orders for banks, travel agencies, supermarkets and hotels, and supplies wholesale banknotes globally.

With more than 150,000 UK members in under a year, Travelex Plus appears to be emerging as a key pillar of the company’s retail strategy in 2025.
