Alibaba Launches New Version of Its Large Language Model

Last Thursday, May 9, China’s Alibaba Cloud announced the launch of a new version of its large language model.

Alibaba Launches New Version of Its Large Language Model

Jingren Zhou, chief technology officer of the mentioned company, stated that the firm has seen a variety of creative ways to use AI configurations from different industries, including gaming and consumer electronics. He also noted that Alibaba Cloud is looking forward to working with its customers and developers to take advantage of the huge growth opportunities that have become a reality amid progress in the area of artificial intelligence.

The new version of the Tongyi Qianwen AI model is called Qwen2.5. The company claims that this configuration of the digital product differs from the previous modification by significantly improving cognitive abilities, which increases the efficiency and accuracy of reasoning of the digital mind. The firm also stated that the new version of the AI model demonstrated a higher level of comprehension of code and understanding of text compared to similar Qwen2.0 results.

It is worth noting that large language models are necessary to ensure the functioning of artificial intelligence apps, such as OpenAI ChatGPT. At the training stage, these models receive the skills to work with huge amounts of information to then generate answers to user requests in the paradigm of the logic of human thinking.

Based on the results of the March analysis of the OpenCompass platform, it was found that the latest version of Qwen surpasses OpenAI GPT-4 in terms of language and creation capabilities. At the same time, the Alibaba Cloud product is inferior to the brainchild of the ChatGPT developer due to such parameters as knowledge, reasoning, and mathematics.

Tongyi Qianwen was presented in April last year. This debut took place several months after OpenAI launched ChatGPT, a chatbot that became a sensation of sorts, demonstrating to users the impressive cognitive capabilities of artificial intelligence. In October, Chinese developers released a new version of their digital product, which differed from the previous configuration with improved abilities in solving tasks such as understanding complex instructions, copywriting, reasoning, and memorization.

Alibaba Cloud reported that more than 2.2 million corporate users have access to artificial intelligence services based on Qwen, including, for example, DingTalk. The company has also released several new modifications of the mentioned model, which are intended for the open-source developer community. Moreover, Alibaba Cloud has updated Model Studio, its platform for generative artificial intelligence. In this case, new resources are being used to develop AI.

It is worth noting that currently other Chinese technology giants are also actively involved in the artificial intelligence industry. Baidu and Tencent have released chatbots and generative AI models amid the rapid growth of consumer demand for advanced technology.

Last month, Baidu reported that the number of users of its Ernie chatbot was more than 200 million people. In August, this company received permission from the Chinese authorities to carry out activities to develop products based on artificial intelligence.

Generative AI also helps accelerate the making of humanoid robots in China.

It is worth noting that in the era of large-scale spread of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity is of particular importance. Scammers also have access to advanced technologies, which makes their activities more sophisticated. In these circumstances, user awareness is important. For example, an Internet search query such as how to know if my camera is hacked will allow anyone to get information about signs of unauthorized access to the device.
