Amazon and Universal Music Group (UMG) have expanded the scope of their partnership.
On Monday, December 23rd, the e-commerce giant, which is also one of the largest players in the global technology sector, and the recorded label stated that they are working on combatting illegal content generated by artificial intelligence. The participants of this partnership also protect artists from fraud and misattribution.
UMG will partner with Amazon Music as it continues to expand in audio, including further innovation in audiobooks, audio and visual programming, and its investment in live-streamed content that has connected millions of fans with their favorite artists across all genres and corners of the world.
Also in the current year, UMG joined other record companies Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group in suing AI music startups Suno and Udio on charges of unauthorized use of copyrighted materials. The startups said that their use of copyrighted recordings to train artificial intelligence systems falls under the fair use protection of US copyright law. Also in this context, the claims from record companies were characterized as attempts to suppress competition.
