Avassa and Alimak join efforts amid a broader trend of edge computing and industrial digitalisation, as companies deploy software and data processing closer to physical operations.

Avassa said that Alimak Group has selected its Edge Platform to support new edge computing initiatives across its equipment portfolio. Alimak Group operates in construction, industrial, wind, and infrastructure sectors.
Alimak Group is introducing an edge computing layer to enable connected systems using IoT, real-time data processing, and AI applications on-site. The platform will allow the company to deploy, manage, and monitor containerised applications locally across products and facilities.
The Avassa Edge Platform is designed to manage applications across distributed edge locations. It supports remote operations, lifecycle management, and monitoring in environments with limited connectivity and resources.
As part of the project, Alimak Group is developing a modular edge architecture. The company said this will support use cases such as control systems, analytics, and AI-based applications. These systems are intended to run directly in operational environments.

Avassa stated that its platform enables remote updates, orchestration, and monitoring of applications across multiple locations and that the agreement expands its presence in the industrial sector.

The deployment of edge and AI systems in industrial environments is taking place alongside new regulatory frameworks in Europe. The EU Artificial Intelligence Act sets requirements for high-risk AI systems used in areas such as industrial operations and safety.
In addition, the EU Data Act introduces rules on access to and use of industrial data generated by connected devices. According to the European Commission, a large share of industrial data is currently not used. The Data Act aims to increase data availability and reuse across sectors.
These regulations affect how companies deploy AI and manage data at the edge, including requirements on security, transparency, and data access.
