Amazon Web Services (AWS), backed by local leaders, has announced plans to invest an estimated $11 million to expand its infrastructure in Georgia.

The mentioned company noted that the specified financial injections will help support cloud computing and artificial intelligence technologies. Separately, AWS underlined that in this case Georgia’s continued growth as a technology powerhouse is underscored. Investments in the mentioned region of the United States are expected to contribute to the creation of at least 550 new high-skilled jobs.

In a message published by AWS, it was noted that generative artificial intelligence is driving the growth in demand for advanced cloud infrastructure and computing power. It was also underlined that the company’s investments will support the future of AI from data centers in Georgia.

AWS data centers are flexible enough to efficiently run graphics processing units for traditional workloads or artificial intelligence and machine learning models. The deployment of cutting-edge AI infrastructure is expected to strengthen Georgia’s position as an innovation hub.

As noted in the message published by AWS, for more than a decade Amazon has been the driving force behind the economic growth of the mentioned region of the United States. Since 2010, the company has invested $18.5 billion in Georgia and contributed $20.1 billion to the state’s gross domestic product.

AWS noted that the latest expansion is a testament to the thriving business ecosystem of the mentioned region of the United States and a talented workforce that has enabled Amazon to support 34,000 full- and part-time jobs, and 44,700 indirect jobs.

The company’s planned investments in Georgia are expected to create hundreds of new, direct AWS jobs in technical roles like data center engineers, network specialists, engineering operations managers, security specialists, and many more.

Also, the mentioned financial injections will support thousands of local construction jobs and positions in the data center supply chain.

Amazon’s commitment to Georgia extends beyond just job creation. Through the Disaster Relief Hub in Atlanta, the company’s teams have been working with local organizations to use Amazon’s logistics and technologies to deliver essential supplies to those in need in the wake of hurricanes Helene and Milton. Moreover, a business giant has made significant investments in renewable energy. As part of the relevant actions, the company has built eight solar farms. Once these projects are fully operational, they will begin generating enough carbon-free energy to power an estimated 123,000 homes in the United States each year. Amazon MGM Studios also regularly films TV series in Georgia, such as The Bondsman, The Pickup and I Want You Back.

Roger Wehner, vice president of economic development at AWS, stated that the company’s continued investments in infrastructure across the United States demonstrate its relentless commitment to power customers’ digital innovation through cloud and artificial intelligence technologies.
