Monad, a blockchain platform focused on high performance, has implemented the ERC-8004 standard to enable a foundational identity and reputation layer for trustless software agents across decentralized networks. The rollout is part of broader adoption of this emerging Ethereum standard, designed to support persistent agent identities and reputations for automated interactions and coordination.
The ERC-8004 standard provides an on-chain registry infrastructure with three core components: Identity, Reputation and Validation. Those allow autonomous agents to maintain verifiable identity and reputation across applications without relying on centralized intermediaries. This framework supports cross-platform interoperability and enables developers to build protocols and services where agents can interact, transact and be discovered with minimal human oversight.
Monad is a high-performance EVM-compatible Layer-1 blockchain built to deliver scalable throughput, fast execution and developer-friendly tooling while maintaining compatibility with existing Ethereum smart contracts and ecosystems. Its mainnet launched publicly in late 2025 following an extended testnet period, marking a transition from development to full production readiness.
Monad’s adoption of ERC-8004 aligns with ongoing ecosystem developments in decentralized identity and trust infrastructure. The standard has already seen deployment on other major blockchain networks, including BNB Chain’s mainnet and testnet, where it enables on-chain identity and reputation registries for autonomous agents as part of an “AI Agent Economy.”
Under the ERC-8004 specification, agent identities are represented on-chain in a verifiable format, while reputation data records past interactions and performance, permitting other agents, services and users to assess trustworthiness before engagement. This persistent identity model contrasts with earlier approaches where software agents would have to re-establish trust from scratch each time they operate in a new environment.
The standard’s registries can be queried by developers and protocols to determine agent legitimacy, history and accumulated reputation, enabling economic and governance models based on on-chain feedback. Components such as Identity Registry use token standards to represent agent identities, and the Reputation Registry structures feedback signals that can be accessed by automated systems to guide interaction and selection decisions.
ERC-8004’s deployment on Monad extends its compatibility across Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible ecosystems, including Ethereum, BNB Chain, Base, Polygon and others, helping reduce fragmentation in the agent economy and supporting a more unified infrastructure for developers building automated applications.
Industry observers view ERC-8004 as a potential foundation for the emerging agent economy, where autonomous software can coordinate tasks, establish trust and exchange value across decentralised environments. By standardising identity and reputation, ERC-8004 enables more complex interactions between agents and reduces reliance on centralized verification systems, which is expected to accelerate development of services such as on-chain credit mechanisms, prediction markets and automated coordination workflows.
