As financial platforms grow more complex, fintech providers are increasingly embedding AI assistants directly into their products to help customers navigate features, automate routine tasks, and reduce reliance on manual support. Airwallex is the latest payments company to introduce such a tool, adding an in-app AI assistant designed primarily to simplify day-to-day platform use.

The Airwallex AI Assistant is built into the company’s web application and functions as a conversational guide for business users. It answers product questions, explains features, and helps customers complete setup steps such as opening accounts or enabling payment methods. In certain cases, the assistant can also execute actions on the user’s behalf after confirmation. Its role is focused on navigation and operational efficiency rather than financial analysis or strategic recommendations.
The new assistant supports users who have completed identity verification (KYC) and are logged in as admins or owners. It can provide personalised, step-by-step guidance, suggest essential tasks based on business needs, and save a checklist of setup items directly to the dashboard. Examples include help with opening multi-currency Global Accounts, adding funds, connecting to accounting software, or enabling local payment methods.
Unlike many AI helpers that simply provide textual information, Airwallex’s assistant can navigate the WebApp interface on behalf of the user, linking directly to relevant pages or completing selected functions such as creating accounts or enabling eligible payment methods. Before executing these, it clearly explains the action and asks for confirmation.
The assistant can also help check the status of payouts and deposits, explain reasons for common delays, and raise support requests by gathering details and forwarding them to the Airwallex Customer Support team when human follow-up is needed.
There are important limits: the assistant is not available on mobile apps or API-only environments, cannot make high-risk changes (such as closing accounts or altering legal entity details), does not offer live chat with support agents, and remains dependent on the accuracy of existing documentation.
This positioning differs from broader business finance assistants such as Intuit’s QuickBooks Intuit Assist, which spans accounting workflows, bookkeeping automation, and performance insights. Intuit’s system is designed to categorize transactions, reconcile accounts, and surface financial recommendations across multiple back-office functions, extending beyond simple product guidance. The AI tool can generate estimates, issue invoices and bills, remind the user about payment and deliver personalized recommendations.
Stripe, meanwhile, applies AI in a less conversational way. Instead of a chat-style assistant inside its dashboard, the company uses machine learning models to optimize payment performance behind the scenes. These tools focus on fraud detection, authorization improvements, and routing optimization to increase acceptance rates and reduce risk, emphasizing infrastructure-level intelligence rather than user interaction.
Taken together, the differences reflect distinct priorities. Airwallex’s assistant concentrates on helping customers operate the platform more quickly, QuickBooks targets finance automation and reporting, and Stripe applies AI to payment processing performance. While all three use AI, their implementations serve different operational layers of the fintech stack.
