G+D Expands Convego Card Issuance Platform With AI Validation, NFC Mailers, And Kiosk Pickup

Giesecke+Devrient (G+D) has announced three additions to its Convego product range, targeting the delivery and activation stage of payment card issuance: an AI-based address validation tool, NFC-enabled packaging, and a kiosk-based card pickup option.

G+D Expands Convego Card Issuance Platform With AI Validation, NFC Mailers, And Kiosk Pickup

The announcement comes against a backdrop of growth in card volumes. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York reports more than 648 million credit card accounts currently active in the United States.

Address Validation

G+D’s data indicates that 10-20% of returned mail in card issuance involves incorrect addresses, while 60-75% of returns involve addresses that are undeliverable. The new Convego validAIgent product runs address checks before a card ships. It flags likely undeliverables, suggests corrections, and synchronizes updates across CRM and personalization systems. For cards already returned, the system can contact cardholders via in-app messaging, collect a new address, and trigger re-personalization and redelivery. The product includes CASS-certified validation for U.S. addresses and portfolio-level address-quality analytics.

NFC-Enabled Packaging

Convego Smart Package embeds a low-energy Bluetooth (BLE) tag in card packaging. When the package comes within proximity of the recipient’s mobile device, it triggers a notification via SMS or within a banking app indicating arrival and prompting activation. The tag works with both iOS and Android devices and carries a unique identifier.

Kiosk-Based Card Pickup

Convego QuickCard allows cardholders to collect a card from a self-service kiosk rather than wait for postal delivery. After approval, the cardholder receives an authorization code, selects a kiosk location, authenticates, and collects the card. The option is available for newly issued cards and emergency replacements.

Platform Structure

The three products sit within G+D’s Convego Service platform, which also covers inventory management, card design, fulfillment, and customer communications. Banks and FinTechs can adopt individual components or combine them with existing workflows.

Eric Megret-Dorne, Global Head of Issuance Services at G+D, said: “Data and AI make card issuance more efficient and autonomous: Verifying the destination, selecting the right channel, reducing the steps between card receipt and first transaction – without adding complexity for the cardholder or the issuer’s operational teams. With concrete, deployable levers we are targeting potential failure points that issuers can solve on their own terms and timeline – as agentic as they want issuance of a card to be.”

AI Integration Across the Convego Platform

The May 2026 announcements follow earlier AI development within the Convego range. In May 2025, G+D introduced generative AI capabilities to Convego Card Designer, allowing consumers to create custom payment card designs via image-generation prompts entered within a banking app.

The product pairs image generation with a two-stage compliance screening process. First, an analytical AI scores the user’s text prompt in real time against pre-defined compliance policies, routing it to immediate approval, conditional review, or rejection, with alternative suggestions offered in the latter case. If the prompt is approved, a second AI engine screens the generated image for compliance and copyright issues before the design is confirmed. The underlying model is pre-trained and fine-tuned to assess context and sentiment, and can apply bank-specific regulatory rules alongside standard content filters covering areas such as hate speech and violence.
