Flexible Klarna buy now pay later (BNPL) options are now available to eBay customers in more European markets.
eBay and Klarna have expanded their partnership motivated by successful collaboration in Germany to offer Klarna’s Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) services in additional European markets, including the UK, Austria, France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain.
This expansion aims to provide eBay shoppers with more flexible payment options, including Klarna’s BNPL features such as interest-free instalment payments (“Pay in 3”), deferred payments (“Pay in 30 days”), or financing plans for larger purchases with monthly repayments.
Alongside offering diverse payment options, eBay buyers can enjoy added peace of mind when choosing products marked with the Authenticity Guarantee badge. Each eligible item is meticulously examined by a team of expert authenticators to ensure its genuineness before being shipped. This assurance, paired with flexible payment solutions for higher-value purchases, empowers buyers to shop confidently and make secure decisions with ease.
Not only does this joint initiative align with the growing demand for alternative payment methods, particularly among younger generations like Gen Z and Millennials, who have increasingly adopted BNPL solutions, enjoying their flexibility for purchasing items without immediate credit card debt, but also the expansion is very timely, coinciding with the holiday shopping season, enhancing payment flexibility for millions of eBay users.
In the U.S. alone, 20% of consumers will make holiday purchases on a credit card and carry the balance, and 16.4% plan to resort to buy now pay later (BNPL) services to spread out the purchase cost. Not only half of Zoomers and Millenials, but also nearly 60% of consumers across all generations prefer BNPL over credit cards due to the ease of payments, the simple approval process and lack of interest charges.
The collaboration allows both companies to tap into the vast potential of merging e-commerce with BNPL solutions. Revenue from ‘buy now pay later’ (BNPL) services embedded in e-commerce platforms is forecast to account for over 50% of the whole embedded finance market in 2026.
Furthermore, as consumer interest in sustainable shopping grows, Klarna has introduced a feature allowing its users to easily resell items purchased through its app directly on eBay. The streamlined service possible due to collaboration between the two firms automatically fills listing details and images, making it fast and convenient. It reflects eBay’s commitment to making it easy for shoppers to become eBay sellers as well as shifting consumer preferences, especially among younger generations, towards cost-effective and environmentally friendly shopping options.
Available to users in the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Austria, and the Netherlands, the resell feature helps shoppers maximize the value of their past purchases and earn extra income, all the while contributing to the circular economy through recommerce. This practice is particularly popular in categories like fashion, electronics, furniture, and collectibles.
