Klarna just turned ‘add payment option’ into a one-click decision for thousands of merchants with Stripe for WooCommerce integration.
Klarna, a global provider of flexible payment solutions, buy now pay later (BNPL) services, and digital banking tools, has expanded its presence in e-commerce through a new integration with Stripe for WooCommerce.
This development enables Klarna’s payment options to be automatically available to the hundreds of thousands of WooCommerce merchants using the Stripe plugin, requiring no additional setup or technical action.
Stripe for WooCommerce integration is a payment gateway plugin that allows WooCommerce store owners to securely accept a wide variety of payment methods, including debit/credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc.), digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay, and many local payment options such as SEPA, Alipay, Klarna, and others, directly in their online store using Stripe’s payment processing platform.
The move addresses growing consumer demand for flexible checkout options, such as split payments and “try before you pay,” which are often unavailable or difficult to access during online shopping. By making Klarna a default payment choice, WooCommerce merchants can more easily meet modern customer expectations for convenience and payment flexibility.
Previously, Klarna was the default payment option only for new WooPayments merchants. Today, it is being automatically enabled for all merchants using the Stripe for WooCommerce plugin, including existing stores already live on Stripe who previously had to install or configure Klarna separately.
David Sykes, Chief Commercial Officer at Klarna, emphasized the impact on merchant performance, noting that this integration reduces checkout abandonment and increases sales by simplifying the payment process for customers.
WooCommerce supports over 4.5 million online stores worldwide, ranging from small businesses to well-known brands. With Klarna enabled by default for stores using Stripe, millions of shoppers gain access to faster and more flexible payment options during checkout.
Web Griebel, Head of Payments at Woo, highlighted the partnership’s goal of empowering merchants with effective tools to enhance their online success. Klarna’s payment solutions, now more accessible through this integration, aim to reduce cart abandonment and support merchant growth.
This update is currently live and available to all WooCommerce merchants using the Stripe payment gateway. Klarna offers shoppers the ability to pay later or split payments in a few simple steps, helping merchants improve conversion rates and accelerate business growth.
