Kraken exchange has confidentially filed a draft registration statement in preparation for a U.S. initial public offering (IPO), right upon $800 million dual-tranche funding round.

Kraken, the U.S.-based cryptocurrency exchange, has filed preparatory documents for its prospective IPO after the entity raised $800 million in a recent funding round, which brought its valuation up to approximately $20 billion.
The second tranche of the mentioned raise was anchored by a $200 million strategic investment from Citadel Securities, underscoring institutional confidence in Kraken’s plan to scale globally.
With this significant capital infusion, Kraken plans to deepen its regulatory footprint, expand into new regional markets across Latin America, Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and broaden its product suite both organically and via targeted acquisitions.
The rumours regarding Kraken’s potential IPO have been circulating since last year, as the cryptocurrency exchange expected its revenues to range from $1 billion to $2 billion. The forecast proved to be true, further supporting the company’s expansion strategy. Kraken’s revenue for 2024 was approximately $1.5 billion, doubling from 2023. The exchange also had $42.8 billion in assets under management at the end of 2024.
Although Kraken’s leadership says the public listing is still not imminent despite the announced preparations and will depend on regulatory clarity, the combination of a $20 billion valuation, robust funding, and strategic partnerships positions the firm for a public debut in the near term. This move signals the maturing of the crypto-exchange sector and expands investor access to a key infrastructure player in the digital-asset ecosystem.
Other crypto players that have moved into public markets include Coinbase, which debuted in 2021 as the first major U.S. exchange to go public; Circle, the issuer of USDC, which filed for an IPO in 2025; Gemini, which completed its listing in 2025 at a valuation of around $3 billion; and Bullish, a Peter Thiel-backed exchange that advanced its own listing plans in 2025.
