Microsoft AI, a unit of the technology giant specializing in the implementation of activities in the artificial intelligence industry, which was established in March, is opening a new machine intelligence hub in London.
Microsoft AI hub will work with its corporate teams and partner specialist groups. This facility will carry out activities related to the development of large language models and tools for the foundation of artificial intelligence configurations. The corresponding statement was made by Mustafa Suleyman, executive vice president and CEO of Microsoft AI, in his blog on Monday, April 8. He also noted the outstanding talent pool and the ecosystem of artificial intelligence in the United Kingdom.
Moreover, Mustafa Suleyman talked about his work with thought leaders in the government of the mentioned country, representatives of the business community, and scientists. According to him, the United Kingdom is committed to the responsible advancement of artificial intelligence and security to stimulate investment, innovation, and economic growth. Mustafa Suleyman stated that Microsoft’s decision to open an AI hub in London reflects the mentioned aspiration.
Jordan Hoffman, who previously worked at Inflection and DeepMind, will become the head of the specified functional object. Microsoft will also be posting vacancies and actively hiring employees in the United Kingdom in the coming weeks and months.
The AI hub will complement the technology giant’s existing presence in the United Kingdom. Microsoft already has a research laboratory in Cambridge. The tech giant has also invested about $3.2 billion to train the workforce in the United Kingdom for the era of artificial intelligence and the development of the AI infrastructure.
Mustafa Suleyman, who is the co-founder of the companies Inflection and DeepMind, joined Microsoft in March to lead the consumer machine intelligence unit. The tech giant has also hired most of the employees of Inflection.
Last week, the United States and the UK committed themselves to working together on the development of safe artificial intelligence. These countries have signed an agreement according to which their AI safety institutions will cooperate in testing advanced configurations of digital thinking systems. The United Kingdom and the US have also agreed to establish similar partnerships with other countries to improve the security of artificial intelligence.
It is worth noting that during the period of active scaling of the process of using machine intelligence, the issue of ensuring cybersecurity is significantly being actualized. Scammers have access to artificial intelligence tools. For this reason, the methodology of their actions becomes more complicated and more sophisticated. Technology companies are responding to these challenges, but user awareness is also important. For example, a query in an Internet search system, such as How do I know if my phone camera is hacked, will allow anyone to get information about signs of unauthorized access to the device.
