Microsoft on Wednesday, August 21, announced that in October it will release a controversial Recall search function using artificial intelligence.
The mentioned feature, as reported by the technology giant, will be available to users of the Windows operating system in test mode from October. Recall takes screenshots of actions on the screen. In this case, the purpose of the technology is to assist users in searching for those information materials that they have seen before.
It is worth noting that researchers in the security area are wary and apprehensive about the new functional solution that Microsoft will launch in October. According to them, Windows automatically capturing images, without users opting in, contains risks. Researchers have released open-source software to demonstrate, by concrete example, how personal information can become available to intruders without any significant obstacles and difficult barriers to overcome.
In response to experts’ concerns, the technology giant announced in June that the Recall feature would be turned off by default. Microsoft has also committed to improving the security of this solution.
