myTU Expands European Payment Stack with SEPA Direct Debit for Smarter Business Billing

Digital bank myTU has introduced SEPA Direct Debit as part of its expanding business payments offering, marking a significant step forward for European companies seeking simpler and more predictable billing models. The new capability allows businesses to collect funds directly from customer bank accounts under the SEPA CORE scheme, supporting both recurring and single payments across the European Union.

SEPA Direct Debit is designed to reduce friction in the payment journey by automating collections once a customer mandate is in place. After consent is granted, payments can be processed automatically, making the solution particularly well-suited to industries that rely on regular billing cycles. These include subscription services, utilities, telecoms, insurance, lending, education, and mobility providers, where payment reliability and timing are critical to cash flow.

myTU indicated that the launch reflects its ambition to remove operational complexity from financial processes and help businesses gain tighter control over billing. The platform now enables companies to manage the full SEPA Direct Debit lifecycle through a single, programmable API. This includes creating, storing, updating, and cancelling mandates, submitting collection requests, and receiving structured callbacks at every stage of the process. Built-in Verification of Payee further reduces setup errors and improves the likelihood of successful payments.

From a commercial perspective, SEPA Direct Debit offers clear advantages over card-based billing. Lower processing costs, fewer failed transactions, and the absence of card expiry or token churn make it a more stable option for long-term customer relationships. Scheduled collections also help businesses avoid late or missed payments, improving predictability and reconciliation.

Security remains a core focus of the service. myTU’s SEPA Direct Debit infrastructure follows the bank’s existing security framework, including ECDSA signatures, IP and DNS validation, secure timestamps, and bidirectional authentication. Real-time event notifications support automated reconciliation and allow for smooth integration with accounting, ERP, and billing systems, reducing manual intervention.

The introduction of SEPA Direct Debit further strengthens myTU’s end-to-end banking stack for modern, API-first businesses. It complements existing services such as instant pay-ins and payouts, card issuing and acquiring, and digital onboarding, enabling companies to manage multiple payment flows through a unified platform.

As European businesses continue to prioritise efficiency, automation, and cost control, the addition of SEPA Direct Debit positions myTU as a comprehensive payments partner. The move underscores the growing importance of account-to-account payments in Europe and highlights how programmable banking infrastructure can support scalable, reliable growth for businesses operating across borders.
