Joining European Agentic Commerce Alliance (ACA) is a chance for Nexi to directly participate in shaping the future of agent-driven commerce by establishing open, interoperable standards for autonomous AI agents in online shopping.

Nexi Group, the European PayTech, has joined the Agentic Commerce Alliance (ACA), an open initiative focused on supporting the development of accessible, secure, and interoperable agent-driven commerce for merchants of all sizes.
The Agentic Commerce Alliance, co-founded by Shopware, German-based global open-source e-commerce platform provider, in 2025, brings together companies working to define how autonomous AI agents interact within commercial environments. These agents are increasingly capable of understanding context, coordinating across systems, and executing transactions on behalf of merchants and consumers. However, without shared standards and interoperability, their use across platforms and workflows remains limited.
The Alliance aims to address this challenge by developing vendor-neutral, open standards that allow autonomous agents to operate safely across systems while maintaining merchant oversight and control. Its principles include openness by default, interoperability by design, customer-centricity, vendor neutrality, global accessibility, and a human-first approach to trust.
As a member of the ACA, Nexi will contribute its experience operating payments infrastructure at scale across Europe, alongside its knowledge of local market requirements and transaction security. The company will support the development of standards designed to ensure AI-driven commerce systems are reliable, secure, and interoperable.
“Agentic commerce has enormous transformative potential, which can only be unlocked through an open, interoperable ecosystem built on common standards,” said Roberto Catanzaro, Chief Business Officer of Merchant Solutions at Nexi Group. “Nexi is committed to creating secure payment experiences for AI-driven commerce worldwide, evidenced through our work with key players including Google, Mastercard and Visa, ensuring that every agent-led purchase reflects real consumer intent. Joining the ACA further strengthens our commitment to European merchants and deepens our collaboration with global partners, ensuring the next generation of automated commerce tools empowers businesses to thrive in the new digital economy.”
The Alliance was initiated by Shopware as an extension of its work in open commerce architectures and applied artificial intelligence. It positions open standards as a means of preventing concentration of control over discovery and transactions within closed platforms. As evident from current discussions in both payments and tech spheres, monopolized segments and siloed systems ultimately limit opportunities available for merchants, customers and startups entering the field.
“Without open standards, discovery and choice risk being controlled by closed platforms,” says Stefan Hamann, CEO of Shopware and Agentic Commerce Alliance initiator. “With them, agents can recognize trust, service, and expertise – ensuring merchants of all sizes remain visible, maintain direct customer relationships, and stay competitive.”
Moreover, not only agentic commerce but also wider AI innovations are increasingly recognised as the ones needing open-source collaboration. NVIDIA’s recent survey revealed that 84% of respondents believe open-source AI models and software play a key role in their AI strategies. This type of collaboration was also a hot topic for dicussion at CES 2026 conference.
