Nvidia CEO Says About Prospects of Artificial General Intelligence

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang believes that artificial intelligence, which logic of thinking is similar to the paradigm of the corresponding process implemented in the space of human consciousness, can be developed within the next five years.

Nvidia CEO Says About Prospects of Artificial General Intelligence

The mentioned statement was made by the head of the company, which is currently the largest developer of chips necessary, including for the functioning of AI systems, during an economic forum at Stanford University at the end of last week. The approximate timing of the appearance of artificial general intelligence, in which thinking corresponds to the logic of human perception of the world, was given by Jensen Huang as part of the answer to the relevant question.

The CEO of Nvidia, whose market value has exceeded $2 billion, also noted that achieving the specified goal depends on how it is perceived. According to him, artificial general intelligence can be presented shortly if the purpose of the corresponding AI system is the ability to pass human tests.

Jensen Huang says that, in his opinion, in five years, machine intelligence can succeed in every single test that can only be imagined and provided to the computer science industry.

It is worth noting that artificial intelligence can already cope with some tests, such as the law exam. At the same time, in many areas of human knowledge, AI is still facing significant difficulties in terms of its cognitive capabilities. Nevertheless, this does not mean an impossible task for artificial intelligence. As training deepens and expands, AI capabilities will improve and strengthen. Jensen Huang says that in five years, advanced technology should be able to pass any test within the framework of its tasks.

At the same time, the head of Nvidia said that artificial general intelligence can be developed later than five years. According to him, this scenario will be realized if scientists cannot formulate a common opinion for a long time on how to describe the principles and methodology of the process of functioning of the human mind. In this context, he noted that it is difficult for an engineer to achieve anything unless specific goals have been set for him.

At the Economic Forum, Jensen Huang was also asked about the required number of chip manufacturing plants, which are something like fundamental material for the development of the artificial intelligence industry. Sam Altman, Chief Executive of OpenAI, says that the corresponding production facilities need to be expanded. Jensen Huang agreed with this point of view, but at the same time noted that the quality level of chips will increase, as a result of which the volume of demand for these products will decrease. He acknowledged that more factories need to be built, but underlined that AI algorithms and processing are improving over time. Probably, this statement should be interpreted as an assertion that increasing factories is an important task in the short and medium term, but from the point of view of long-running planning, more efficient and productive chips reduce the need for production capacity.

Silicon Valley has directed multibillion-dollar investments into the development of artificial general intelligence. At the same time, the appearance of this AI configuration is not a guaranteed prospect, which belongs to the category of a regular stage of the incremental process.

Researchers from Stanford University say that any hints about the possibilities of artificial general intelligence in modern technologies and digital thinking systems are just an illusion. Also, in the expert environment and the AI industry, there is an extremely negative opinion about AGI, which is not dominant, but the fact of its presence is unambiguous and objective. Proponents of the corresponding point of view say that enthusiastic statements about artificial general intelligence should be characterized as a science fiction marketing ploy. In their opinion, the enthusiastic perception of AGI as a reality of the near future lacks a component of realism.

The preliminary goal of artificial general intelligence is that this AI system should perform tasks in many segments of the human knowledge area and be able to solve problems beyond the answers provided in the training datasets. Such a level of cognitive development from the point of view of the current scale of thinking of cut-edging machine intelligence configurations is a goal that can be described as a distant prospect, possible in a more technologically advanced future.

Nowadays, AI as a mass-consumption product strives for what can be called specialized differentiation. This means the development of artificial intelligence systems designed to solve specific tasks. For example, an AI can play chess with a user, provide fraud protection, develop a transactional risk model, generate content based on a consumer request, and perform other tasks. However, artificial general intelligence, according to proponents of the idea of its creation and the realism of achieving the corresponding goal in the foreseeable future, should have a higher level of independent thinking and enhanced cognitive abilities.
