Global payments company Payfuture has launched a new integration with Shopify that enables merchants to accept popular local payment methods in India through a single connection. This system is aimed at streamlining payment processing in this growing market.

The integration grants access to an extensive list of local payment choices including the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and NetBanking with the help of Payfuture’s solution. The firm plans to simplify the whole checkout process at the same time offering the users more favorable transaction solution.
This news appears to be very timely because the online retail market in India is growing steadily. Experts think that by 2027 India’s e-commerce sector is going to reach approximately $150-170 billion due to the increasing internet access, smartphone use, and larger number of online customers than ever before.
With growing competition in the field of ecommerce, it has become more important for merchants penetrated in or expanding in the Indian market to take payment localization into consideration while entering the market. Offering payment methods that are most common for the customers will lead to a decreased number of abandoned checkouts and potentially to an increased level of trust and conversion rates. Along with that, the merchants will be obliged to comply with local regulations and peculiarities of the payment systems. Therefore, it is a good chance for the regional payment service providers to establish strong partnerships with the merchants who are using their services in the region.
Payfuture said the Shopify integration is intended to address these challenges by combining local payment acceptance with a simplified technical implementation for merchants operating through the e-commerce platform.
“This integration makes digital commerce more accessible, scalable, and locally optimised for global merchants in fast-growth markets,” said Manpreet Haer, CEO and Co-Founder of Payfuture. “India is a vital market for ecommerce growth, and our infrastructure makes it easier for merchants to reach local buyers while maintaining compliance and operational efficiency.”
India represents one of the most significant opportunities for cross-border ecommerce due to its large consumer base and rapidly evolving digital payments ecosystem. UPI, developed by the National Payments Corporation of India, has become the country’s dominant real-time payment system, processing billions of transactions every month. The world’s most widely used instant payment system now processes transactions at nearly twice the rate per user as UK debit cards and is on course to surpass 1 trillion lifetime transactions by early 2027. Alongside UPI, NetBanking remains an important payment option for many online purchases, particularly among consumers who prefer direct bank transfers.
According to Payfuture, the Shopify integration forms part of its wider strategy of extending local payment connectivity through widely used ecommerce platforms. The company said it continues to invest in payment infrastructure and regional capabilities to support merchants expanding across India and other high-growth markets in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
“Our role is to help global merchants operate like locals in markets that are often difficult to access,” added Manpreet Haer. “The Shopify integration allows us to bring that vision to life in one of the most important commerce ecosystems in the world.”
Founded in 2019 and headquartered in London, Payfuture provides payment acceptance and cross-border settlement services for merchants, platforms, and payment providers operating in emerging markets.
