African payment service provider (PSP) Peach Payments is now offering customers in Mauritius to use their credit or debit cards with Apple Pay while paying at local stores, pharmacies, taxis, restaurants, coffee shops, retail stores, and other types of businesses that support the fintech’s solution.
Apple Pay is one of the world’s most popular digital wallets cherished for its advanced biometric security features such as Face ID, Touch ID along with hardware-driven device passcode. It is used by about 600 million people globally. In Africa overall, Apple Pay use is still relatively limited compared to Europe or North America, however the continent’s South parts show robust growth.
Apple Pay officially launched in South Africa in 2021 with major banks including Absa, Nedbank, and Discovery Bank. Peach Payments was one of the service pioneers then and now brings the same level of novelty to another African market.
“In 2021, Peach Payments was the first payment service provider to offer Apple Pay in South Africa, and we are pleased to play a part in its launch in Mauritius,” said Rahul Jain, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at Peach Payments.
Five years after launch, customers can use Apple Pay at over 90% of South African retailers using modern card terminals. In Mauritius, Apple Pay earlier technically worked at NFC terminals only with foreign-issued cards. However, Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB), the country’s largest bank, officially launched Apple Pay support on May 19, 2026. Peach Payments was first to support the functionality, empowering local merchants with safe, convenient transaction acceptance.
“Mauritius continues to position itself as a forward-looking digital and financial hub, with strong banking infrastructure and growing consumer adoption of digital commerce. Apple Pay is another important step in delivering faster, more secure, and globally trusted payment experiences for merchants and consumers in the market.”

Local customers can now use Apple Pay on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac to make purchases offline, in apps or on the web in Safari. Besides security, the benefits of using Apple’s digital wallet is not having to create accounts at every seller website or repeatedly type in shipping and billing information. Some of the most common Apple Pay use cases include food and grocery deliveries, online shopping, transportation, parking payments, hospitality bookings, spa treatments, holiday excursions, and many more.
Mauritius has a very high mobile penetration rate of 170%, with mobile subscription number exceeding 2,155,400 per 1.26 million people population. By rough estimations, Apple device share in Mauritius is about 16% of all mobile/tablet devices.
