Shipments to China of smartphones from foreign brands in November fell by 47.4% compared with a year ago, according to data published in the current week by the research company affiliated with the government of the Asian country.
It is worth noting separately that Chinese smartphone imports have been on a downward trajectory for the fourth month in a row.
Calculations based on the data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) showed that foreign brand shipments decreased to 3.04 million units from 5.769 million units a year earlier.
In October, the drop in the mentioned indicator was also significant. Shipments of smartphones from foreign brands to China in the mentioned month decreased by 44.25% year-on-year.
The specified tendency is particularly sensitive and, in a sense, painful for Apple. Currently, this company is facing such realities in China as a slowdown in economic growth and increased competition from local manufacturers, primarily Huawei.
It is worth noting that consumer prices in the Asian country in November fell to the lowest level in the last five months. In China, household spending has come under pressure from factors such as economic uncertainty and concerns about deflation.
With its market share in the Asian country declining, Apple launched a rare four-day promotion this week, cutting prices by up to 500 yuan ($68.5) on its flagship models. Through the mentioned commercial solution, the technology giant aims to boost its sales in China.
Shipments of phones within the Asian country, including domestic brands, fell 5.1% year-on-year to 29.61 million handsets in November.
