Swiipr, the travel fintech reshaping airline compensation systems, has introduced a major industry innovation through its collaboration with Google: an instantly provisioned digital compensation card that passengers can add from their browser directly into Google Wallet. This new solution replaces traditional paper vouchers and manual reimbursement methods with immediate, secure digital payouts issued at the moment of disruption.
The technology is powered by Google’s Web Push Provisioning (WPP), which allows passengers to receive and activate a digital card without installing an app. Airlines can then load funds onto the card in real time, enabling passengers to use compensation or purchase necessities such as meals within seconds. The offering is particularly effective for low-value, time-sensitive payouts, a common need during flight delays and cancellations.
Swiipr highlighted that this development marks a major step forward in moving airline compensation away from legacy systems. The company noted that simplifying the wallet-provisioning process would help drive wider adoption of mobile compensation tools and significantly improve the passenger experience.
With more than 500 million passengers affected by flight disruptions each year, costing airlines billions globally, the shift toward digital compensation has the potential to dramatically reduce administrative burden and operational inefficiencies. Swiipr’s payment cards are already used across more than 150 airlines, including major carriers such as British Airways and Iberia, as well as by ground agents in over 260 airports.
The company explained that the new product addresses a common concern from airlines considering compensation digitalization: whether passengers would need to download an app. Swiipr confirmed that the new approach eliminates that requirement entirely, enabling airlines to deliver a fully digital experience in the last mile of the passenger journey.
Google Wallet representative emphasized that the integration aligns with its goal of offering fast and seamless digital payment experiences, noting that the new process enables passengers to add and use their compensation cards in just a few clicks.
This collaboration marks a major advancement for the aviation sector, setting a new standard for instant, mobile-first disruption management.
