Travelex Launches Multi-Currency Travel Money Card in Japan

The prepaid Travelex Money Card was introduced to Japanese customers. Except for the Japanese Yen, the contactless card enables customers to load eight more foreign currencies, including the US dollar, euro and Australian dollar.

Customers can use the card for payments at all the venues where Mastercard is accepted. Besides, they can withdraw local currency in cash overseas without ATM fees.

Travel Money card is not linked to a bank account. The peculiar feature of this foreign currency card is that it does not require My Number verification documents. Therefore, it’s possible to purchase the card in-store or online even on the day of departure.

Via the Travelex Money App, customers can add currency to the card, check their balance, view transaction history and pause usage in case of loss or theft.

Earlier, the financial product was introduced to customers in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. In some of the locations, the card supports up to fifteen currencies. In Japan, the Travel Money Card will replace the existing Travelex Multi-currency Cash Passport previously sold in the Japanese market.

We have earlier reported that a facial recognition biometric solution from the Seven Bank is set to be deployed at around 20,000 ATMs in Japan as early as March 2024.
