Visa, together with Fiserv and Amazon Web Services (AWS), is advancing agentic commerce by making it easier for AI agents to securely shop and pay on behalf of users in real-world settings.

Visa has accelerated its development of agentic commerce, a model in which artificial intelligence agents can autonomously discover, compare, and purchase products for consumers, with a series of strategic moves in late 2025 that blend payments innovation, merchant support, and cloud-native tooling. These efforts aim to help businesses and developers build and scale secure, AI-powered shopping and transaction experiences.
A key component of this push is Visa Intelligent Commerce, a suite of APIs and tools designed to integrate autonomous agents with Visa’s global payment network. Rather than leaving the actual purchase step to human users, the platform enables agents to initiate and complete transactions securely, provided the user has given consent. This capability addresses a long-standing gap in AI commerce: enabling agents to carry out end-to-end commerce flows without manual checkout.
To support secure, scalable implementation, Visa and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have collaborated to make Visa Intelligent Commerce available within the Amazon Bedrock AgentCore environment. The partnership includes open blueprints in the Bedrock AgentCore samples repository that help developers build end-to-end agentic workflows, handling authentication, agentic tokenization, and user intent capture for contextual payments. Visa’s integration with Bedrock AgentCore provides a secure foundation where agent behavior, identity, and transaction context remain protected while still enabling seamless commerce flows.
Security and trust are central to this work. Visa has developed the Trusted Agent Protocol, which allows merchants to verify the identity and intent of AI agents acting on behalf of consumers. This protocol is being actively deployed across partners’ systems, most recently including Fiserv’s extensive merchant network, so that businesses can distinguish trusted agents from bots or malicious actors, ensuring that transactions are properly authorized and protected. In a recent collaboration, Fiserv and Visa announced plans to embed Visa Intelligent Commerce and the Trusted Agent Protocol into Fiserv’s ecosystem, giving merchants the infrastructure needed to accept agentic transactions with confidence.
Industry observers have noted that hundreds of agentic transactions have already been completed in real-world settings as part of Visa’s initiative, with plans for broader adoption by the 2026 holiday season. Partners worldwide are participating in pilot programs and developing solutions within Visa’s agentic commerce sandbox, pointing to growing ecosystem engagement.
By combining secure payment infrastructure, cloud-native agent tooling, and trusted authentication protocols, Visa’s developments offer a practical framework for businesses and developers to experiment with and build agent-driven commerce experiences. For merchants, the focus is on enabling secure, consent-based automated purchasing in ways that fit into existing payment flows; for consumers, the appeal lies in reducing friction in multi-step shopping journeys while maintaining security and control.
