The Ukrainian government is demanding that Western countries provide combat aircraft and air defense capabilities to Ukraine, as NATO refuses to close the sky over the country. However, Western countries claim Ukraine has no qualified militants to use such weapons.

Modern aircraft equipment could save hundreds of people and help Ukraine protect its territory and sovereignty. However, western countries are reluctant to give Ukraine the aircraft capabilities, fearing it has no qualified forces to use them.

“If NATO cannot or does not want to “close the sky” over Ukraine, we will close it ourselves. For that, give us the aircraft weapon that you keep undercover,” says the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov in his Facebook post on 9 March 2022.

However, the concerns of the West seem vain. Judging from how deftly the Ukrainian army uses modern Javelin missiles and other weapons that the West provided earlier, it can learn new things fast and is ready to handle the aircraft.

Moreover, Ukraine is actively welcoming professional militants who volunteered to join Ukrainian’s Foreign legion. They know how to use the aircraft and can teach the Ukrainian army how to use the weapon that Western countries need to provide.

“I am now finally a part of the Ukrainian foreign legion. From Finnish reservist Lt. to UA recruit. People from all over the world have come here to help to defend Ukraine. My bunkmates are Norwegian and American. There is still plenty of room for more!” – says a Foreign Legion recruit from Finland in his Tweet.

“My name is Jacks, I’m from England. We’re here to help stop the (Russian) invasion of Ukraine. War crimes are being committed here – bombing civilian objects, killing civilians, raping women, and it should not be happening. I hope we will win,” – said another fighter of the Foreign Legion in his video.

Dozens of Ukrainians living in the UK are also buying surplus military equipment and preparing to head for the front lines in their homeland, according to the BBC. A group of foreign nationals who are entering Ukraine to fight told The Independent they were all inspired by the harrowing images of Russian air raids and fierce shelling.  According to the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States, more than 3,000 Americans have already applied to join the Foreign Legion, including veterans of the Armed Forces.

The Ukrainian Foreign Region gets a huge interest from people worldwide. Professional militants from the UK, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Japan, Belgium, France come to Ukraine to join the Foreign Legion. About 13 million people have visited the official website for volunteers to join the Legion.

As for now, more than 20,000 volunteers and veterans from 52 countries have expressed a desire to join the International Legion of Ukraine, according to Brigadier General Kyrylo Budanov, commander of the Ministry’s Central Intelligence Agency, which will lead the legion, CNN reports.

General Burdanov thanked the fighters and said that they were mostly experienced fighters who had taken part in many peacekeeping campaigns around the world:

“Today’s war is not only against Ukraine, but also against the whole free world, against the legal system of mankind, which determines the right of nations and countries to freedom and self-determination, sovereignity of territorial borders.”
